Moscow is ready to contribute to Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’
Russia could provide $1 billion “right now, even before we decide whether we’ll take part… in the work of the Board of Peace,” Putin said, citing Moscow’s “special relations with the people of Palestine.” He added that the sum could be taken “from the Russian assets frozen by the previous [US] administration.” Putin emphasized that Moscow “has always supported and continues to support any efforts aimed at strengthening international stability.”
The initiative, conceived by Trump after last year’s US-brokered ceasefire, envisions an international council overseeing funding, security, and political coordination in Gaza during a transitional period, working alongside a Palestinian technocratic administration.
Putin expressed gratitude for Trump’s invitation but noted that Moscow would need additional time to consider the offer and consult its strategic partners.
Trump has reportedly invited dozens of countries to join the board. Hungary, Morocco, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Argentina have already accepted. Founding members can participate for free for the first three years, while a $1 billion payment – equivalent to the donation offered by Putin – is suggested for a permanent seat. China confirmed its invitation on Tuesday but did not indicate whether it would participate.
US authorities have indicated that the board’s mandate could eventually expand to address other global conflicts. Around $5 billion of Russia’s approximately $300 billion in frozen assets are held in the US. Putin stated that the remaining frozen funds could be used for the economic recovery of areas affected by the fighting once a peace deal is reached between Moscow and Kiev.
