USS Stout departs Morocco

AGADIR, Morocco – Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stout (DDG 55) completed a scheduled port visit to Agadir Oct. 13.

During the port visit, Stout Sailors had the opportunity to explore the local community and experience Morocco’s rich cultural heritage during liberty ashore.

“Our visit to Agadir was a great opportunity to engage with one of our oldest allies,” said Cmdr. Kevin Taylor, commanding officer of Stout. “Morocco's leadership in regional maritime security made this a highly valuable visit, and our Sailors were proud to represent the Navy while experiencing all the country has to offer.”

The port visit highlighted the strong relationship between the U.S. and Morocco, rooted in shared interests in regional peace, security and prosperity. The U.S. is committed to continued cooperation on issues of common interest.

The Kingdom of Morocco is a valued regional ally for the United States. The two nations share a commitment to peace, enshrined in the longest-standing treaty relationship in U.S. history. Strengthening partnerships during the port visit builds enduring bonds and demonstrates a common commitment to ensuring maritime security and regional stability, which is shared across all regional allies and partners.

Stout independently deployed in September from its homeport of Norfolk, Virginia, to the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa area of responsibility in support of U.S., allied and partner interests. Stout is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer capable of conducting anti-air, anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare operations.

Commissioned in 1994, Stout is named in honor of World War II Navy Cross recipient Rear Adm. Herald F. Stout, who commanded Fletcher-class destroyer USS Claxton (DD 571) during the Battle of Bougainville.

Headquartered in Naples, Italy, U.S. 6th Fleet conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, interagency and partner forces, to advance U.S. national interests and promote security and stability in Europe and Africa.
